The recent Google’s PageRank update downgraded none other than Google itself from 10 to 9.

The update done on June 27,2011 changed the pageranks of many sites including Google. This is the second update in this year after the January one. PageRank of Facebook remained at 10/10

Check the pagerank of Google here

PageRank is a algorithm used by search engine giant Google to assign a value to each webpage based on its importance.

Some of my observations:

Facebook.com pagerank stands at 10
MSN.com, Bing.com doesnt change at 8
Statcounter.com, Microsoft.com dropped from 9 to 8

and many other sites page rank dropped to below PR5 from PR9.

If you have a high page rank website, you can also check your current PageRank and other traffic details at page rank checker

Google seems to be making many changes recently . It introduced the +1 button, Panda update ,black-grey menu bar and now the pagerank update.

Will be waiting to see more….

Your Gmail Inbox is overflowing with email messages. Some are newsletters that you are subscribed to, some are messages from friends and colleagues that you would like to read as soon as they arrive while the rest could be spam that managed to trick the built-in Gmail filters.

Focus on the Most Important Emails First!
When you only have a limited amount of time to process that long queue of unread messages, it is important that you prioritize your emails and defer reading stuff that is not very important and can wait (like those newsletters).

Here are two simple Gmail filters that will automatically move out all the low-priority emails out of your Inbox so that you can focus on the important ones. They should also come handy when you are checking emails on the go – the high-priority items will be delivered to your mobile device while everything else will stay in your Gmail account for you to follow up later.

1. Filter out emails that are not addressed to you

If your name is not in the TO: or CC: field of an email message, chances are that you may not have to worry too much about responding to that message.

The following filter will automatically move messages out of your Inbox to another folder that are of less-priority as they are not addressed to your directly.

From: –you@email.com
To: –you@email.com
Has the words: cc:–you@email.com
Skip the Inbox (Archive It)
Apply the label: Not for me

If you have more than one active email address, you can either add them all to the above filter separated by the OR operator or setup another similar filter per address.

2. Move Bulk Emails to another folder

Bulk email messages are likely to contain words like “click here” or “unsubscribe” even if those hyperlinks are just a tactic of the spammer to confirm your email address. In either case, the existence of such words in the message can help us easily filter out bulk emails:

Has the words: unsubscribe OR “click here”
Skip the Inbox (Archive It)
Apply the label: Bulk Mail

Not everything under the “bulk mail” folder will be spam as it will also match email newsletters that you are subscribed to. That said, email newsletters never require immediate attention so they safely reside in a folder other than your inbox.

Finding who is invisible is something that I always wanted to do.It’s always fun to ping a person who feels none can see him/her online. While studying XMPP protocol I found out that even when the person is offline the chat client knows that person is online.
The Chat Client should know who all are really online at any given time. This is because even when the person is invisible he/she should have a buddy list showing online users.

Ah!! Guess you did’nt understand a word till now.Let me try making it simpler.

Let’s assume two users A and B are online now. Both A and B are Available (ie the chat client shows them online). Both A and B has a list of online users in his chat client(eg:google talk, gmail inbox chat, pidgin). Now this online users need to be kept constantly updated. This is done by the XMPP protocol(this is the protocol used by google for it’s chat). Now even if B is invisible still it needs to keep it’s online users list updated as it needs to show B the online users.
So whenever B logs into his account it initially sends a presence notification to all the users in it’s contacts list saying that B is online as “Please show me online in our online user list”.
All online users respond back with their online status and status message.
This is where the invisible people shows up.The chat server replies back with their status. The only difference in them is that they respond with their status as “Unavailable“.
So my aim was to find out all users that respond back to me with Unavailable status and display them.
Ok enough of explanation of how it works let’s see the code

When you create a Google Account, you automatically get access to web-based office apps, email, calendar, file storage, tasks list and instant messaging but one piece that still missing from the Google cloud is project management.

Even Google Apps, a service that is so popular among businesses, doesnt have any project management related features to help teams plan and coordinate better. Some people use spreadsheets in Google Docs and Gmail for co-ordinating tasks but isnt that complicated.

If you are a Gmail or Google Apps user and are looking for an online project management app that can integrate with your other Google services (mainly Google Docs and Google Calendar), Manymoon could be a good choice.

Getting started is easy. You can sign-up using your standard Gmail Account or Google Apps account. Then create a project and add users to the project by manually entering their email addresses or you can even import contacts directly from your Google Apps, Outlook, LinkedIn, or Yahoo accounts.

Once your project is setup, you can add tasks and assign them to yourself or other team members. You can attach existing Google documents to individual tasks or upload new files from your desktop into Manymoon and the service will automatically save a copy of these files into your Google Docs account.

Similarly, once you associate your Google Calendar with your project, all events, pending tasks and project milestones that you create inside Manymoon will automatically show up in your Google Calendar.

You can then view your project calendar from within the Manymoon project or the regular Google Calendar interface.

Manymoon also offers time-sheets to help project teams track the time team members spent on tasks and other project items.

The basic version of Manymoon is free and still offers unlimited users and projects but you only get 5MB space for storing files and one project calendar. If you are a Google Apps Premier user, you can get up to 1 GB of storage space for free.

Though the programs lacks some advanced features (Gantt Charts and Invoicing for example), what I really liked about Manymoon is the uncluttered interface and every feature that there just works as you would expect.

Zoho Projects is another useful web-based project management software that, like Manymoon, also integrates well with Google Apps.

The reports are out of the Nexus One sales during the first week and no, they dont look as good as they should have been – or atleast with the hype it created, we expected better.

Nexus One sold just 20,000 units on its first week of sales. Flurry estimates that Nexus One was outsold by Droid by more than 12 times, myTouch 3G by 3 times and iPhone 3GS by a staggering 80 times.

Flurry monitors usage of more than 10,000 developers applications on iPhone and Android platforms. In total, Flurry tracks applications
on approximately four out of every five iPhone and Android handsets in the market, generating over 25 million end user sessions per day. To estimate first week sales totals for the Nexus One, myTouch 3G, Droid and iPhone 3GS, Flurry detected new handsets within its system
, and then made adjustments to account for varying levels of Flurry application penetration by handset. Flurry additionally crosschecked its estimates against Apple actual sales, released for iPhone 3GS, which totaled more than one million units over the three days, June 19 – 21, 2009.

Reason of such report? In our opinion, it was the high starting price and they should have given a gap in between the recent Droid and the new Nexus One. People who have just bought the Droid wont go for the Nexus One soon.

The Link With Zune & iPod

The teardown reveals some interesting “secrets” about the components used in the Google Phone.

For example, the touchscreen is made by Samsung who is also a supplier for Microsoft Zune HD. The Bluetooth and wireless chip found in the Nexus One is from Broadcom and it the same chip that is used by Apple for iPod touch.

Online newspaper sites like the Financial Times require users to sign-in if they want to read more than one article on their site. The New York Times too had such a restriction in place earlier but they seem to have dropped that requirement now.

The Wall Street Journal, on the other hand, is a subscription-based site. They do offer free access to some of news stories but all the premium content is behind a pay-wall and therefore available only to paid subscribers.

Since these newspaper websites are part of the “First Click Free” program, someone visiting them via Google search can read the first page of the story without registering or subscribing. The first click is therefore “free” but the user will have to sign-in or register to read further.

First Click Free & Google Visitors

However, due to a possible bug in the implementation, the registration prompt gets bypassed for Google visitors giving them free access to all the news articles — even the premium content meant for subscribers.

It works like this. You first copy the web address of any news article that is behind the registration firewall and paste that URL into the Google Search box. Now click the first Google result and youll be able to read the full text of the corresponding story without registering or subscribing.

Casper is a brilliant mashup that displays movement of incoming and outgoing flights on a Google Map live.

The airplanes are colored based on the name of the airline to which they belong but you can also change their colors based on the altitude at which they are currently flying or the flight type (whether it an incoming flight, outgoing or in transit).

You can also click the icon of a moving airplane to see speed and height at which it is flying in real-time.

And if you are checking this service at a time where there isnt flight traffic at Schipol Airport, just select one of the past days from the drop down to replay the entire flight movement for that day on your computer screen.

Casper is currently tracking flights that are flying in and out of the Amsterdam Airport but we do have similar services for visualizing air traffic at the Zurich Airport and RadarVirtuel that tracks flights for most European countries in almost real-time. GmapTracker tracks incoming flights for US airports of New York, San Francisco, LA, Atlanta, Boston and Chicago.

If you are a girl and your first name is Elizabeth, youll find the following Google Map interesting as it marks all the street names and roads in North America that have the same name as you. You can also view this data inside Google Earth.

And here a similar Google Map highlighting streets that have the word Michael in their names.

Create a Google Street Map with your Name
If you would like to know which all streets and roads in America have the same name as you, check this public database of name of boys and girls at Weather Salad.

Alternatively, you may use the following direct URLs – just replace YOUR_NAME with your first name:

For streets with boy names (e.g., Jacob, Wilson, Alexander or Harrison)

http://maps.google.com/?q=http://media.weathersealed.com/data/streets/boys/YOUR_NAME.kmz

For streets with girl names (e.g., Ashley, Sharon, Vanessa or Catherine)

http://maps.google.com/?q=http://media.weathersealed.com/data/streets/girls/YOUR_NAME.kmz

You can currently find details of around 2000 most common first names of boys and girls according to the social security database.
