Facebook confirms Skype Integration for Video Calling

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook today announced some pretty features in a press event held at its Head Quarters in Palo ALto, California.

Zuckerberg mentions about 3 new features coming to facebook,

– New Design

– Group Chat &

– Video Calling

In the Press event zuckerberg and CEO of Skype , Tony Bates anoounced the inclusion of this new video calling feature adding 170million skype users with 750million of facebook

For now , the video chat feature is only added for web and not for mobile.

The new Chat Design and the Group Chat features are also added.

Google PageRank dropped to 9/10

The recent Google’s PageRank update downgraded none other than Google itself from 10 to 9.

The update done on June 27,2011 changed the pageranks of many sites including Google. This is the second update in this year after the January one. PageRank of Facebook remained at 10/10

PageRank is a algorithm used by search engine giant Google to assign a value to each webpage based on its importance.

Some of my observations:

Facebook.com pagerank stands at 10
MSN.com, Bing.com doesnt change at 8
Statcounter.com, Microsoft.com dropped from 9 to 8

and many other sites page rank dropped to below PR5 from PR9.

Google seems to be making many changes recently . It introduced the +1 button, Panda update ,black-grey menu bar and now the pagerank update.

How to Take Website Screenshot / Thumbnail in Windows Server

We have tried to take Webpage/Website screenshot and use it’s Thumbnail in website worth calculator website.

This method works for most of the websites which are hosted on Linux server except for few java script enabled websites where it throws a error.

But for websites hosted on windows server it works 100% perfectly.

How to Take website screen shot in Windows Server

If you want to start your own website thumbnail generation service it is best to take windows hosting because this software / script works 99.99% correctly on windows Operating System as it is an .exe file

Requirements :

Windows Hosting

PHP GD Library

Permissions to execute ".exe" files (VPS/Dedicated server is best for this)

IE must be installed (because screenshot is taken from IE only)

How this script will work in your hosting server

Thumbnail Generator software checks if it can capture particular website thumbnail or not.

If it can take the screenshot, it will be in the cache.

If not it will capture full webpage (home page of the given domain) and shows it in the IE Browser by using IECapte.exe

The images now are saved into the folder which is specified in the script and the thumbnail would be resized by given dimensions and finally displayed in the Browser

How to Install this Script

Download IECapt and upload it to your windows hosting server

Download Website Thumbnail Generator script and unzip to the same folder where you uploaded the IEcapt

Change the webthumb.php as needed . You can change the cache time, thumbnail size, folder path for thumbnails etc..

Usage Example

webthumb.php?url=http://www.google.com

webthumb.php?url=http://www.facebook.com&x=150&y=150

Text-to-Speech

Plug the Kindle 3 into your computer with the USB cable.

Open the Kindle 3 as if you were adding ebooks to it and create a new folder among the other folders, not inside one of the other folders, and name it “pictures”.

Inside the “pictures” folder, create another folder to add the images into. Adding images directly in the “pictures” folder will not work. You can create multiple folders to have different collections if you want.

Safely unplug the Kindle from your computer and then tap Alt + Z on the homescreen to add the newly created folders to the book list. Click on the folder and the Image Viewer will launch.

How to Update PHP 5.1 to 5.2 in Centos

Summary

This guide describes how to upgrade the standard PHP 5.1.x packages in CentOS 5.x 32-bit to the current development versions 5.2.x. These instructions were created using CentOS 5.3 32-bit and with the following PHP packages installed:

# rpm -qa |grep php

 php-common-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-cli-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-pdo-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-bcmath-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-ldap-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-devel-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-gd-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-xml-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-mbstring-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-mysql-5.1.6-15.el5.i386
 php-dba-5.1.6-15.el5.i386

As long as you’re using the standard PHP packages on your CentOS server you won’t need to do anything extra. If you’re using extra PHP packages that aren’t part of the standard CentOS repositories (like php-mcrypt) you’ll have to remove them or find updated versions of them

Add the development repositories

First thing we need to do is add the development repositories to yum. When we add the development repository we’re going to configure it so it only pulls PHP packages. To start we’ll need create a new yum repository configuration file (use your favorite editor):

# /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Testing.repo

Copy/paste the following into this file:

# CentOS-Testing:
  # !!!! CAUTION !!!!
  # This repository is a proving grounds for packages on their way to CentOSPlus and CentOS Extras.
  # They may or may not replace core CentOS packages, and are not guaranteed to function properly.
  # These packages build and install, but are waiting for feedback from testers as to

Make sure to remove any spaces at the start of each line, then save and close the file and you’re done.

Update PHP packages

Before updating your PHP packages you’ll want to get a list of what you currently have installed. To get a list of current PHP packages run the following:

# rpm -qa |grep php

Now you can use yum to update the PHP packages on your system:

 # yum update

You should be shown a list of packages that are going to be updated. Compare it to the list of PHP packages on your system. Note any packages that are not in the list. You’ll need to remove these packages or find updates for them because they won’t work after you update to PHP 5.2.x. If that is acceptable type “y” to continue and let yum update the packages.

Once yum has completed restart Apache:

# service httpd restart

To verify the update is working create a simple testing.php in your www directory with the following source code:

and open it in a web browser. The new PHP version should be reflected at the top of the page.

Conclusion

You should now have PHP 5.2.6 running on CentOS 5.3 32-bit.

Updating/Installing mcrypt

If you have php-mcrypt for PHP 5.1.x installed you’ll want to remove it:

Note: Your version number maybe different. Alter below command accordingly.

rpm -e php-mcrypt-5.1.6-15.el5.centos.1

Download php-mcrypt for PHP 5.2.x and install it. You can find a 32-bit php-mcrypt package here FedoraJunkies.

Note: You’ll notice the “–nodeps” flag in the example. When you try to install php-mcrypt without it you get an error that php-common-5.2.6-2.el5s2 is missing even though it is installed.

wget -c http://sourcemirrors.org/scotth/centos/5/php/php-mcrypt-5.2.6-2.i386.rpm
 rpm -i --nodeps php-mcrypt-5.2.6-2.i386.rpm

Restart Apache and you should now see mcrypt information on your testing.php page.

JSON and PDO being loaded twice

When you run the command “php -v” you might see the following errors:

# php -v

  PHP Warning:  Module 'json' already loaded in Unknown on line 0
  PHP Warning:  Module 'PDO' already loaded in Unknown on line 0
  PHP 5.2.6 (cli) (built: Sep 15 2008 20:42:05)

This is caused by the following two lines in the /etc/php.ini file:

; Extension JSON
extension=json.so

; Extension PDO
extension=pdo.so

Comment out these lines by adding a “;” in front of “extension=“. These two modules are already loaded via these two files:

/etc/php.d/json.ini
/etc/php.d/pdo.ini

How to develop android Application in NetBeans

When Google released the Android open mobile platform, they have made an Eclipse plugin to be able to develop Android software using the Eclipse IDE. If you’re a Netbeans user, don’t worry because you can use Netbeans for creating Android applications also. Several guys created a Netbeans plugin that makes it possible to do Android software development under Netbeans.

To start setting up Android development under Netbeans, just open up your Netbeans 6.5 IDE. After starting up, click on the Tools | Plugin from the menu and select theSettings tab from the dialog box. Click on the Add button and enter the Name of the plugin and update URL for the plugin your are manually adding. You can put any text for the Name field, the plugin update URL for the Android for Netbeans plugin is
http://kenai.com/downloads/nbandroid/updates.xml .

After clicking on Ok, it should now be included in the list of configured update centers.

Go to the “Availalble Plugins” tab and you should see Android in the list. Click on the checkbox to mark it for installation. Then click the “Ok” button.

You’ll get a dialog box similar to the one below informing you that the Android plugin will be installed. Click on the “Next” button.

The license agreement will be displayed. You need to agree to to install the Android plugin. Click on the “Install” button once you have clicked on the “I accept..” checkbox.

It should start download the Android plugin.

After the download, you’ll get a message similar to the one below. It basically says that the plugin hasn’t been signed by the Netbeans group. This serves as a warning for potentially dangerous plugins. If you trust the developers of the plugin, just click on the “Continue” button.

After which, you should get an “Installation completed successfully” message.

Now that the Android plugin for Netbeans has been installed, you need to do just one more step to configure it. You need to tell Netbeans that it can now also setup projects for the Android open mobile platform. To do this, click on the Tools | Java Platform menu of your Netbeans IDE.

Click on the “Add Platform” button. Select the “Google Android Open Handheld Platform” and click the “Next” button.

Now locate where you have extracted the Android SDK on your computer and click “Next”.

Give the platform a name. I think “Android” would be appropriate and click on the “Finish” button.

You should now have added Android in your list of supported platforms for the Netbeans IDE.

That’s it. You can now start developing Android applications using your Netbeans IDE.
